Teach in the Peach Connects with Veterans at Warrior Week

Teach in the Peach proudly represented Georgia’s education community during Warrior Week at Camp Southern Ground recently. Warrior Week is a no-cost, week-long transition program designed to help active-duty service members and recent veterans successfully move into civilian life. Through team-building activities, career coaching, and holistic wellness sessions, participants gain clarity, purpose, and a roadmap for their next chapter.

During the event, representatives shared the meaningful career opportunities available in education—highlighting how teaching offers stability, purpose, and the chance to make a lasting impact on future generations. Attendees learned about pathways into education and the support available to help them transition into the classroom.

They also received important information on retirement benefits for military personnel beginning a career in education: Georgia law allows educators to receive up to five years of retirement credit for active-duty military service in the U.S. armed forces, helping veterans build toward a secure future in education. “Teaching isn’t just a job—it’s an opportunity to make an impact,” said Selena Blankenship, Coordinator of Teach in the Peach. “We were honored to connect with veterans and show them how their leadership and service can make a powerful difference in Georgia classrooms.”
