Maybe you left the classroom to care for a family member or retired early to travel the world. When you want to return to the classroom, we will help get you there.
Expired
If your teaching certificate is expired, create a MyPSC account and follow the instructions on the linked page for certificate renewal. If you haven’t met renewal requirements, an employing school system may request a non-renewable certificate on your behalf to allow time for completion of renewal requirements. Once you’ve renewed your certificate, as long as you are still an active (not retired) teacher returning to the classroom, you can apply to teaching positions in the state. Thinking about changing grade levels or content areas? Learn more information about certificate renewals, upgrades, and endorsements.
If you’re a retired teacher looking to return; refer to information provided by the Teachers Retirement System (TRS) of Georgia on House Bill 385. As mentioned on the TRS webpage, connect with your local Regional Education Service Agency (RESA) to verify the areas of highest need prior to securing employment.
Retired teachers are also eligible for a Retired Educator Certificate. This is not the same as renewing professional certification, which is required for retired teachers returning to full-time teaching through HB385. The Retired Educator Certificate allows retired educators high priority on substitute teaching lists.
